Spread The Word About An Upcoming Event

  • Put up flyers around town

The easiest and cheapest way to let people in your community know what you're planning is to advertise it. Put up a poster in the salon (at the front desk and at your station), and also hit other shops around town (dry cleaners, coffee shops, grocery stores) and ask if they would let you post one there.

  • Word-of-mouth

As a stylist and/or salon owner, you have access to an amazing array of people. If you're planning an event, tap into your network to help get the word out, find companies willing to make donations, or just create some buzz. Talk to your clients about your plans and you never know what kind of help they might be able to offer you!

  • Go viral

Don't underestimate the power of the internet. If you don't already have a Facebook page and Twitter account, now's the time to try it out and use them to publicize your event. It's a great way to reach hundreds of people you didn't even know you knew!

  • Find free PR

Public relations firms frequently take on non-profit clients for nothing more than the good karma they'll get in return. So reach out to a local PR firm, tell them about the event you're planning and who it will benefit, and see if they are willing to help you by putting out a press release and reaching out to the media.

  • Partner with local media

Whether you have someone helping with PR or not, it still pays to do some of your own legwork. Call local newspapers and radio stations, find out which editor handles the kind of event you're planning and send him or her your event details to try to get PR of your own. Consider advertising in local event calendars or publications widely read by your target attendees. Make sure to keep track of types of outreach and publications that get you the most attention and RSVPs - use this information for future events you want to promote.
